Legendary voice actor Kevin Conroy died Thursday after a short battle with cancer. He voiced The Caped Crusader in "Batman: The Animated Series" in addition to roughly 60 different projects, including 15 films – highlighted by the acclaimed Batman: Mask of the Phantasm; 15 animated series, spanning nearly 400 episodes and more than 100 hours of television; as well as two dozen video games.
Batman: The Animated Series featured Mark Hamill's memorable performance as the Joker. "Kevin was perfection," Hamill said in a statement. "He was one of my favorite people on the planet, and I loved him like a brother. He truly cared for the people around him – his decency shone through everything he did. Every time I saw him or spoke with him, my spirits were elevated.
The series still resonated 30 years later, with J.J. Abrams and The Batman filmmaker Matt Reeves teamed up with Batman: The Animated Series Bruce Timm for a new take called The Caped Crusader, though it is unknown if Conroy was to be involved.
Earlier this year, Conroy wrote a deeply personal story for DC Pride 2022 comic anthology about how coming out as gay helped him find his voice as Bruce Wayne and his alter-ego.
Even if Kevin Conroy is not with us anymore, Kevin will be remembered by all of us as Batman. He is vengeance, he is the night, and Kevin Conroy will always be Batman
