Spiderhead Review: Great concept, not perfect but worth a try

A crime, drama film directed by Joseph Kosinski about a man who is sent to prison and has to test drugs, but finds out he is being manipulated so he has to find a way to get out

THIS REVIEW HAS SPOILERS. LEAVE OR BE SPOILED
Spiderhead, directed by Joseph Kosinski, is about Jeff( Played by Miles Teller). He goes to Spiderhead, a high-end prison where criminals are being experimented on to see if these new drugs will change and control emotions. Jeff soon finds out that he is being controlled by Abnesti( Played by Chris Hemsworth)with the new drug, who administers the drugs, and Jeff has to stop him and the facility. My thoughts on Spiderhead was that it was enjoyable, entertaining, and was a neat concept of drugs controlling people's emotion and minds. In this movie, there's lots of foreshadowing in this movie that was worth it. For example, Jeff is on top of a hill with Abnesti and Verlaine( Played by Mark Paguio), and he is testing N-40. When Amnesty tells Jeff to open his eyes, he sees a destroyed landscape and a factory fuming smoke, but Jeff says it's beautiful because he sees a blurry cloud. At the film's end, Abnesti is flying a plane to escape Spiderhead, and the N-40 drugs activate. He starts to get blurry vision and sees a cloud; He says it's beautiful and then crashes into the mountain.
The acting and cinematography in this movie were excellent, and every actor didn't disappoint. The actor that impressed me the most was Chris Hemsworth. Chris Hemsworth in this movie had an extensive range of acting. He went from being confident that the experiment would work to angry at Jeff for not turning up the drug on Lizzy to being scared of Jeff in less than a second, which was terrific. But some little side plots in the movie don't get a reveal that pays off. For example, the janitor Ray( Played by Stephen Tongun) tells Jeff that someone is smearing poop onto the bathroom walls and threatens Jeff to see if he was the one doing that. Then near the movie's end, you see that Sarah( Played by Angie Milliken) was the one smearing poop on the walls. This scene didn't pay off and was an unfunny joke. Another part of the movie I disliked was the choices for the characters. I don't see Chris Hemsworth as a wealthy scientist testing drugs on prisoners, and I don't see Miles Teller as a prisoner in this facility. The actors are great, but I don't see them playing these roles. This movie was great and had a neat concept that was meta about drugs and people exploiting each other. I give this movie an 8/10. I hope you liked this review, and if you haven't watched Spiderhead, watch it on Netflix.
