Thor Love and Thunder Review: Thors Electrifying return; with a slight blunder story

Updated: Jul 25, 2022

An action, comedy Directed by Taiki Watiti about Thor's journey to find who he really is and stop Gorr from killing

THIS REVIEW HAS SPOILERS LEAVE OR BE SPOILED
Thor Love and Thunder, directed by Taiki Watiti, is a film about Thor (played by Chris Hemsworth) trying to find his purpose. On his journey, he has to stop Gorr, the god butcher (played by Christian Bale). Thor gets help from Korg (played by Taiki Watiti), King Valkyrie(played by Tessa Thompson), and The Mighty Thor (played by Natalie Portman). I didn't think too highly of this movie and thought this movie was just another cash grab from Marvel. It was a cash grab from Marvel, but I think it was delightful and better than I expected. I thought the movie was comical, the 1 hour and 59 minutes seem short, but the pacing fits this film. The acting was mediocre and nothing outstanding other than Christian Bale's excellent take on Gorr, the God Butcher. The story was predictable and lacked stakes until the end of the movie. Something that would spice up the story a little bit was if Thor tried to get help from not just the Gods but everyone he saved previously, which could've shown the cameos of old allies. The movie's highlight is when Thor is trying to call Mjolnir back to him while Mighty Thor is holding it, but instead of calling Mjolnir back, he gets Stormbreaker. Throughout the movie, Stormbreaker seems to have jealousy issues with Mjolnir and Mighty Thor, which is funny because Stormbreaker is an Axe. Parts of the film I disliked was the CGI, it wasn't so bad that you would leave the theater, but Marvel has impressed us in the past with better CGI. This movie had lots of CGI problems; for example, Thor's gold and blue battle helmet looked so fake, making me wonder why Marvel didn't use a practical helmet. Another bad CGI was the head of Axl floating during the kidnapped scene; honestly, a YouTuber can do better effects. Another part of the movie I disliked was how there was no real stake, or there is not a time in the film where it felt like they would lose, and it never really comes to that. This film was somehow lacking some elements but other than that, it was funny, and I enjoyed the film more than other Marvel projects. I will give Thor Love and Thunder a rating of 8/10, and I suggest you watch the movie and see how it is.
